Mike Powell

I have lots more time to indulge my newly rediscovered passion for photography than I did when I was working full-time, although I consider myself only semi-retired because I still work three days a week.
So far I am shooting primarily flowers and insects and am learning more and more about shooting closeups and macro shots. My friend Cindy Dyer, an award-winning photographer and graphic designer, has been teaching and encouraging me and helping me to improve the quality of my photographs.
I have a photography blog as a way to share with others the steps of my journey into photography. I expect that there will be detours and side trips during this adventure but I genuinely believe that these aspects of the journey are more important than the destination itself.

Let’s admit it, cats like playing with spiders… however, we don’t think this spider feels like playing.
FUN FACT: Mike Powell spotted this jumping spider on the roof of his car when he was reaching inside the car to grab his camera and begin a search for dragonflies. He just happened to have the right tool in his hand at the right moment — a macro lens. The spider was tiny—he estimates that it was less than half in inch (12 mm).
This Halloween Pennant Dragonfly seems to want all the attention! The question is, how will your cat feel about that?

The beauty of the Monarch about to dive in to the flower buffet speaks for itself. Now, if your cat could speak for itself it would say “Me-wow!”.
