About the Episode

During the conversation, Kristina and Brian discuss the origins of Frame Your Feline โ€” from living in a 1920s Los Angeles apartment with an ugly carpeted cat tree to developing a modular wall-mounted feline enrichment system that transforms cats into โ€œliving meowsterpieces.โ€

The discussion explores:

  • Why cats instinctively seek vertical space

  • The difference between โ€œtree dwellersโ€ and โ€œbush dwellersโ€

  • How elevated spaces help reduce stress in multi-cat homes

  • The importance of feline enrichment

  • Why most cat furniture is aesthetically disappointing

  • The role foster photography plays in cat adoption

  • How Frame Your Feline helps rescue cats get adopted faster

  • Mission Meow and supporting feline rescue organizations

  • Designing cat furniture thatโ€™s both functional and beautiful

The episode also dives into the realities of rescue work, fostering, senior cats, and the emotional side of helping animals find safe, loving homes.

The Story Behind Frame Your Feline

The idea for Frame Your Feline began after Kristina and Brian were gifted a large carpeted cat tree while living in Los Angeles.

The problem?

It was bulky, unattractive, difficult to clean, and completely clashed with the aesthetic of their home.

At the same time, they were becoming increasingly interested in โ€œcatificationโ€ concepts popularized by Jackson Galaxy โ€” especially the importance of vertical territory for cats.

After moving into their first home, the concept evolved:
What if cat shelves could also function as artwork?

What started as sketches on napkins eventually became a fully realized product system combining:

  • vertical feline enrichment

  • interchangeable artwork

  • modular wall layouts

  • home dรฉcor aesthetics

  • and rescue-focused functionality

The very first prototypes were handmade by Brianโ€™s father ~ an engineer and master woodworker ~ before the product eventually evolved into the modern Frame Your Feline system used today.

Why Vertical Space Matters for Cats

Cats are both predators and prey animals.

Because of this, elevated territory helps them:

  • feel secure

  • observe their environment safely

  • decompress in multi-cat homes

  • avoid overstimulation

  • and satisfy natural climbing instincts

Throughout the episode, Kristina and Brian explain how vertical spaces became especially important after having their son Jackson, giving their cats a safe elevated area away from noisy toys and household activity.

They also discuss how thoughtfully designed cat walls can:

  • reduce stress

  • prevent territorial conflict

  • encourage exercise

  • discourage counter surfing

  • and create safer pathways throughout the home

Unlike cramped โ€œstep shelvesโ€ often found online, Frame Your Feline units are intentionally designed to allow cats to comfortably lounge, stretch, perch, and relax.

Helping Foster Cats Get Adopted Faster

One of the most impactful parts of the conversation focuses on rescue and foster work.

Over the past two years, Kristina and Brian have helped place more than 140 foster cats and kittens through rescue partnerships and adoption efforts.

During that process, they noticed something important:

Most shelter and adoption photos donโ€™t accurately capture a catโ€™s personality.

Using Frame Your Feline setups, they began photographing foster cats in visually engaging, elevated environments ~ creating more professional adoption photos and promotional materials for rescues.

The result:

  • more eye-catching Petfinder listings

  • better adoption flyers

  • improved social sharing

  • and faster adoption interest

They also revealed upcoming โ€œAdopt Meโ€ artwork panels specifically designed for foster homes, rescue organizations, and cat cafรฉs.

Functional for Cats. Beautiful for Humans.

One of the strongest themes throughout the episode is the idea that cat furniture shouldnโ€™t force homeowners to sacrifice aesthetics.

Traditional cat trees are often:

  • bulky

  • carpet-covered

  • difficult to clean

  • visually overwhelming

  • and poorly integrated into modern homes

Frame Your Feline was designed differently.

The system combines:

  • interchangeable Artwork Panels

  • interchangeable Frame Styles

  • modular layouts

  • scratch-friendly surfaces

  • non-porous materials

  • and customizable installations

The result is cat furniture that feels more like integrated home dรฉcor than traditional pet equipment.

As Barbara Corcoran famously noted during the companyโ€™s appearance on Shark Tank:

โ€œItโ€™s furniture.โ€
